Invitation for Webinar [EASC]: IEEE Women in Engineering (WIE) Student-Teacher and Research Engineer/Scientist (STAR) Program

IEEE R8 Pre-University Works (PUW)Sub-Committee in collaboration with IEEE R8 Women in Engineering (WIE)invites you to a webinar on the WIE STAR program.

IEEE Women in Engineering (WIE) is dedicated to supporting professional women within their careers and inspiring young girls around the world to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). IEEE WIE developed the STAR Program in 2000 to address the growing concern that girls are discouraged from careers in mathematics, science and engineering at a young age. This educational outreach program promotes involvement of IEEE members with local junior high and high schools to inspire a positive image of engineering careers. Through a one-to-one interaction of WIE volunteers with a Teacher-Student Team, the goal of STAR is to create a technical support network for teachers and a mentoring program for the students.

Attend this webinar to learn how you can change the world by participating in or organizing a STAR event.

X Academic Presentation at IEEE Turkish Chairpersons Meeting 2013

Turkish IEEE Student Branches organized the IEEE Turkish Chairperson’s Meeting 2013, held in Izmir, from 4 to 9th of February. The aim of the congress was to present all the activities performed by the student branches, as well as delivering training and presentations on new activities and skills to new members of the executive committees.

Rui Costa, founder and coordinator of the IEEE-X Academic project and member of the Region 8  Educational Activities Committee, responsible for University Works, participated in the congress delivering several sessions with special highlight to the “IEEE-Turkey Academic” presentation.

Rui performed a presentation about the project IEEE-X Academic, that aims to create a student-to-student online educational resource, motivating Student Branches from Turkey to participate as one of the first countries creating such project. An audience of almost 150 individuals attended to the presentation. The presentation was divided in two parts, one focused on motivating about the needs of creation of new educational resources for students as well as the role that IEEE and its Student Branches can have in the process, introducing for the first time in Turkey the IEEE-X Academic project.

The second part of the presentation, delivered in collaboration with the IEEE-X Academic Turkey Ambassador, Mert Karaosmanoglu, was focused in explaining the project structure and organization as well as how the project will be coordinated within Turkey. Following the presentation a very participated Q&A session was performed in order to clarify all the questions that arose during the session.

After the presentation several students shown interest in participating on such initiative and congratulated about the creation of the latter.

At the end of the same day, happened the first IEEE-X Academic Turkey meeting with 14 of the confirmed participant Student Branches in which more questions and clarifications were performed. Below follows the list of participating student branches from Turkey:
