IEEE Jordan Section organized an IEEE Meeting and Training for Jordanian Student Branches’ Volunteers, Which was held in Amman, 9th of March 2013. The goal of the meeting is to bring Jordan Section volunteers together in addition to delivering training session on various topics related to IEEE such like running successful student branches, membership development, awards and reporting, and educational activities.
Muhammad Mustafa and Abdelrahman AlSaifi, members of IEEE Region 8 Pre-University Activities Committee conducted a comprehensive training session about IEEE Educational Activities highlighting EPICS as a great opportunity for participants to encourage their participation in community service in a great way.
The session kicked off with an introduction to the objectives of IEEE Educational Activities Board and the standing committees within the committee, as well as the main activities for both Pre-University and University programs, talking in details about EPICS, TISP, TryEngineering.org and introducing IEEE Academics.
The second part of the session was to talk about EPICS in more details, providing information about the program and its objectives, the main categories that fall under it, and the application process, in addition to demonstrating many applications that has been carried out, and possible EPICS projects that can be applied. The students showed their huge interest in the program and expanding the operations in their student branches.
As an example that is already operational in Jordan, Fatema Hussein, Chair of GJU Student Branch introduced Lab on Wheels, which main objective is to provide schools in different provinces in Jordan with a portable lab equipped with all labs’ needs to implement new exciting experiments to students so as to help them apply theoretical studies practically.
The third session was about TISP Program, where the program and its objectives were introduced, how do TISP events work, and what happens after the training sessions with the teachers.
The session was concluded with quick information about TryEngineering.org, TryComputing.org, TryNano.org and E-Scientia.
