In April 2012, IEEE R8 Pre-university Works (PUW) Sub-Committee took part in the first IEEE Jordanian Student Branch Congress (JSBC). The JSBC was been organized by IEEE PSUT SB in Princess Sumaya University for Technology, Amman.
The JSBC mainly discussed very crucial subjects that have been bombarding the energy status in Jordan that affected all Jordanians, IEEE PSUT felt the social responsibility to suggest the solution of smart grid technology and motivate all young engineers to enhance research around the subject, raise awareness about the need of finding alternative resources, and the desperate need of renewable energy research.
Muhammad Mustafa, the representative of Region 8 Pre-University Works Sub-Committee was there to conduct an introduction session about IEEE Pre-University programs, followed by discussion panel about the opportunities and expected obstacles of implementing PU programs in Jordan in order to support the goals of fostering technology in the country.
The attendees, participating from 12 different universities from Jordan, represented a high interest in the Pre-University programs. The feedback from the attendees was brilliant and as a result the R8 PUW team received an application to participate in Engineering Projects In Community Service (EPICS-in-IEEE), from the German-Jordanian University.
