From 15th to 17th of March, the IEEE Iberian Student Branch Congress 2013 was successfully organised in Oporto, Portugal. The aim of the congress was to present all the activities performed by the student branches in Portugal and Spain, and some invited student branches from Greece, Poland and Turkey, as well as delivering training and presentations on new activities and skills to new members of the executive committees.
Rui Costa and Efthymia Arvaniti, members of the Region 8 Pre-University Works Subcommittee participated in the congress delivering presentation about PUW and a TISP Hands-On workshop. A comparison with TISP 2.0 was also performed.
During the training, Rui Costa, member of the Region 8 Educational Activities Committee introduced the objectives of the R8 EASC with focus on the Pre-University Activities.
First, an introduction and motivation to EPICS-in-IEEE was performed, providing information about the program, and some guidance on where to apply for an EPICS Project.
On the second part of the presentation the TISP program was presented, explaining its objectives and methodologies.
The last part of the session consisted of a 30 minute hands-on TISP activity, challenging the participants to create a Chairlift based on several of-the-shelf simple materials. The Chairlift training was obtained through the TryEngineering.org portal.
The workshop counted 20 participants, that performed the hands-on workshop, gaining awareness about the TISP program and the impact that the same has in motivating for engineering education.
