IEEE Region 8 – Statement against acts of war

IEEE Region 8 strongly condemns any act of war, aggression, violation of international laws and conventions, or against humanity.

We firmly believe that they have no place in the world and always support efforts to help those who are suffering because of them.

International Women’s Day, 1 Year Anniversary for the IEEE WIE UK & Ireland ambassadors’ scheme

According to Sheryl Sandberg, “In the future there will be no female leaders. There will just be leaders.” IEEE Women in Engineering (WIE) UK & Ireland ambassadors’ scheme is continuously striving to bring this future sooner. On this International Women’s Day, we are proud to celebrate our first anniversary. Indeed, it was a year full of events, activities and struggles to not only promote women in engineering and technology but also to create a culture of diversity & inclusion and accepting it as a norm rather than an exception. We envision a vibrant community of IEEE women and men collectively using their diverse talents to innovate for the benefit of humanity.

This video sums up our past year’s events and reflects on how we are progressing to reach our goal. Apart from our main goal of global diversity in science, technology, mathematics, computing and engineering, our events also aim to expose the audience to novel areas and aspects of engineering and computing which solves real world problems, establish a link for industrial collaborations, networking and mentorship and create connections for future research opportunities. Last year, we organised four ‘Early Career Talks’ to provide recent PhD graduates and postdoctoral researchers a platform to share their work. This on-going program is now planning to bring together the fifth episode of the series. There were also two main events for promoting a diverse industry-academia collaboration, titled ‘Challenges and Opportunities: Towards Better WIE Future’ and ‘Empowering Women in the Triple Helix Model’. All our events included variety of topics and speakers representing men and women from both academia and industry. We are grateful to the sponsors, speakers and attendees of events for making them a success!

We are keen to continue working towards a better future for humanity both in terms of technology and diversity and look forward to your participation and encouragement. We wish a happy International Women’s Day to all women and men supporting equality!

WIE Global Marathon

Celebrating the 25th Anniversary of WIE

The year 2022 will mark the 25th anniversary of IEEE Women in Engineering and we are planning a full year of celebrations and key moments to reflect on the great progress and achievements made by great women in STEM within the IEEE. We also plan to celebrate the great men who consistently support women along the way. The WIE 25th anniversary Sub-committee is ready to announce the portfolio of activities which will start with concerted reflections by the past and current WIE chairs, who have led the Committee since its formation in 1997, with a special interview session this year.

This International Women’s Day 08 March, IEEE WIE 25th Anniversary subcommittee presents “A Global Marathon: Spanning the Globe with 25 Years of WIE” We dedicate this event to mothers, sisters, wives, daughters, and all women in the world who are faced with discrimination, injustice, and other socioeconomic issues.
