Publications & Communications (PnC) Committee Mission

The Publications & Communications (PnC) committee is charged with effectively and accurately communicating content and information for the benefit of our Region 8 members (and beyond). Like all news channels we rely on YOU for content, so we encourage you to make sure that you have a Communications Officer in your organization who can liaise with us over content and help you promote your achievements. We will do our best to promote content from our end but its only with your help that we can get the message out here – if you are unsure whom best to contact in the above then just send a message to [email protected] or fill this form, explaining what you need and we will get in contact to help you. Committee Chair

Adeel Sultan

Adeel Sultan, a seasoned Telecommunications Engineer with specialization in microelectronics & semiconductors, is a McGill University Alumni (Montreal, Canada). Currently residing in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, he is working with the country’s main Telecommunication firm, Etisalat, as the Director of projects. Adeel has pioneered many business process enhancements & strategies and was involved in developing smart portfolio management systems and creating unique knowledge sharing platforms. He is also a Founder/CEO of an online service business and as a technology enthusiast and professional, he frequently speaks at various events & forums. Currently Adeel is part of various technical/editorial boards and many innovation committees, including committees responsible for the development & enhancement of AI based educational technologies. As a keen believer in providing equal opportunity to all, he actively participates in various humanitarian programs and serves as an advisor on the board of OC’s of various events and seminars. For IEEE in particular, Adeel have held multiple executive positions within its various units (Section, Region, MGA). He is currently a Chair of MGA-MBPAC and the Vice-Chair of the UAE Section. Most recently, Adeel was part of the Region8 OpCom as VC/Member Activities and now serving the Region8 as the Chair of Publications & Communications Committee. Adeel is also currently a member of MGA GUOS Committee and IEEE Awards Committee. Besides IEEE, he is an active member of other professional organizations. R8T – Region 8 Today

IEEE Region 8 Today was founded on May 2018, aiming to bring to you the latest news of the active members within our Region. Moreover, IEEE Region 8 Today, shares technological information from the IEEE, the world’s largest technical professional association. A large variety of Tech News, IEEE volunteers news, Interviews of people who have contributed a lot to our Region, and many more interesting fields, can be found on our news web portal.

This is a web based medium and as such is able to respond quickly to current content, opinion pieces and promoting events in the near to longer term future. Being online the content is dispatched more or less in a just-in-time fashion and so would be an excellent medium to promote your current events and to drum up publicity for your next events. Fatma is from Jordan and currently working as the Editor-in-Chief for the Region8Today.

Experienced Ambassador with a demonstrated history of working in the information technology and services industry. Passionate about Volunteering, as a Volunteering Ambassador. An active IEEE member in YU branch for more than four years, served as chairwoman for IEEE WIE YU, Skilled in Photography, Team Motivation, programming, Communication, and Decision-Making. Strong community and social services professional with a Bachelor’s degree focused in Biomedical Engineering from Yarmouk University.


R8EC – Region 8 Electronic Communications

The region website is a repository of information about the region and it very good at signposting information and resources available in the region. It is particularly good at listing the various committee structures and naming all of the members of the varied committees.

George Michael

George Michael received a B.Sc. and an M.Sc. in Computer Science from the University of Cyprus and he is pursuing a Ph.D. in Computer Engineering.

He worked at the Data-Driven Multithreading Laboratory at the University of Cyprus for a few years doing research on high-performance computing. Following, he worked as a software developer at XM.COM and CeraNext LTD. Currently, he works at KIOS Research and Innovation Center of Excellence.
He is an active Cyprus Computer Society (CCS) and IEEE volunteer and he held various positions during the past few years. Between them: member of the board of Cyprus Computer Society (CCS) / the University of Cyprus IEEE Student Branch / IEEE Cyprus Section Executive Committee / IEEE Region 8 Committee / IEEE Day and IEEEXtreme. He was part of all previous IEEEXtreme competitions either as a contestant or as a volunteer. On IEEEXtreme 11.0 he served as the Technical, Industry, and Judges Lead, on IEEEXtreme 13.0 he served as project lead.

R8SM – Region 8 Social Media

In IEEE Region 8 we are staying connected with our followers online, using Social Media to get further engaged with our members, but also with those who are interested at learning more about IEEE and its activities. We keep our online presence updated regularly, sharing interesting topics about IEEE Region 8 and IEEE itself.

Mohammad Hossein Babaee

Mohammad Hossein Babaee is a Ph.D. Candidate in Advanced Engineering Systems for Industry at Minho University in Portugal. He received his B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees at Power.

As a member of IEEE, he served as Student Representative of IEEE Iran Section for 2 years, working as a liaison between Iran Section Board of Directors and 44 student branches. Now, he serves as Electronic communications committee lead at IEEE MGA student activities committee, IEEEmadC chair 2021and Membership Development Coordinator at IEEE Portugal Section.

Also, he is an experienced-level graphic designer guy (which always helps him to pay his bills!) and addict to Social Media.

This committee is formed to ensure that we revamp and rejuvenate our webpages, we have created this new committee to study & propose required improvements to our web-based portals. The 2023 Chair for this channel is Nick Wainwright.

IEEE Region 8 News

IEEE Region 8 News is a quarterly newsletter, published by Region 8 Committee to keep IEEE members within the Region updated on programs, initiatives, events, and activities. The printed edition is distributed with the IEEE Spectrum to IEEE members throughout the Region and the electronic version is distributed via email to IEEE Region 8 members, and downloadable from the Region 8 News website as well.

 

IEEE Region 8 News is produced by volunteer editors with contributions from members from all over Region 8. The Editor-in-Chief of this Publications & Communications channel is Maja Matijasevic.
