Call for Nominations: 2025-2026 Delegate-Elect/Director-Elect

The IEEE Region 8 Nominations & Appointments (N&A) Committee is soliciting nominations for the following leadership positions:

  • IEEE Region 8 2025-2026 Delegate-Elect/Director-Elect (six year commitment)

Information on the responsibilities, required skills and expected commitment is available at the Region Director position description and the IEEE Board of Directors member position description.

 

Submit nominations by filling up the IEEE R8 Nomination Form at https://ieee.secure-platform.com/a/solicitations/825/home, by 31 May 2023. The slate of candidates will be selected by the Region 8 Committee during the meeting in August 2023. The IEEE Region 8 2025-2026 Delegate-Elect/Director-Elect will be elected by the voting members of Region 8 in the 2024 IEEE Annual Election from the slate approved by the R8 Committee.

 

In 2025-2026 this individual will:

  • be invited to attend the IEEE Board of Directors and the IEEE MGA Board meetings (as part of the preparation and education for the later service)
  • serve (as a voting member) on the IEEE Region 8 Committee and IEEE Region 8 Operating Committee
  • erve as member on the IEEE Region 8 Nominations & Appointments Committee

Additional duties may be expected and will vary.

 

In 2027-2028 this individual will serve on the:

  • IEEE Assembly (as delegate/representative of IEEE Region 8 members)
  • IEEE Board of Directors
  • IEEE MGA Board
  • IEEE Region 8 Committee (as chair)
  • IEEE Region 8 Operating Committee (as chair)
  • IEEE Region 8 Nominations & Appointments Committee.

Additional duties may be expected and will vary.

 

In 2029-2030 this individual will serve on the:

  • IEEE Region 8 Committee
  • IEEE Region 8 Operating Committee
  • IEEE Region 8 Nominations & Appointments Committee (as chair)
  • IEEE Region 8 Strategic Planning Committee (as chair or as a regular member)
  • IEEE Region 8 Awards & Recognition Committee (as chair or as a regular member).

Note that to the previous slate, the names of any successful candidate by petition (for the positions of Secretary, Treasurer, and the three Vice Chairs) will be added, as mentioned on the R8 Operations Manual R8M-5:

“… In the case of the R8 Secretary, R8 Treasurer and the three R8 Vice Chairs (MA, SA, TA) a candidate may be added to the slate provided by the R8 N&A Committee by a petition including the signatures of at least 15 voting members of the R8 Committee. Valid signatories comprise anyone who is a voting member of the Committee during the calendar year in which the petition is submitted. If the petition is not submitted by the candidate, it must be accompanied by the written confirmation of the willingness of the candidate to serve if elected. The petition must be submitted to the Director or Secretary twenty-one (21) days before the election is due to take place, and after verification of validity, awareness of the additional candidate(s) must be made available to the R8 Committee fourteen (14) days before the election.”

This year, nominations by petition must reach the Region 8 Director by 25 September, 2022. Note that during the R8 Committee meeting, petition candidates from the floor will not be accepted.

 

All candidates’ biographies/IEEE activities/statements will be distributed to the R8 Committee members prior to the R8 Committee meeting in Cairo, Egypt, 14-16 October, 2022.

In particular I would like to highlight that the R8 OpCom members (Secretary, Treasurer, VC MA, VC SA, VC TA) will be elected by the R8 Committee voting members (OpCom members and Section Chairs or their alternates), while the R8 N&AC members will be elected by the Section Chairs (or their alternates).

 

During the incoming R8 Committee meeting for those positions with just one candidate and for the R8 N&AC, no oral presentations will be necessary. The candidates for R8 VCs (MA, SA and TA) are expected to give a 5-minute presentation of themselves. Questions and Answers (Q&A) will follow.

The IEEE Region 8 2023-2024 Delegate-Elect/Director-Elect will be elected by the voting members of Region 8 in the 2022 IEEE Annual Election from the slate nominated by the R8 Committee. The Region 8 Committee will select the slate during the Region 8 Committee meeting either in the Fall of 2021 or the Spring of 2022.

 

The IEEE Region 8 2022 Vice-Chairs will be elected during the Region 8 Committee Meeting in the Fall of 2021. Note that the current Vice Chairs are eligible for re-election.

2016 IEEE Region 8 Election results

During the IEEE Region 8 Committee meeting in Porto, Portugal, 24-25 September 2016, elections were held for the five Region 8 Operating Committee members who are elected by the voting members of the Region 8 Committee and for the three members of the 2017-2018 Region 8 Nominations and Appointments Subcommittee who are elected by the Region 8 Section Chairs.
