Region 8 Standards Coordination
IEEE standards play a central role in advancing technology, supporting interoperability, and enabling global innovation. IEEE standards activities include both the development of technical standards and raising awareness and participation in the standards development process.
In Region 8, standards coordination focuses primarily on promoting awareness of IEEE standards and encouraging engagement with the IEEE Standards Association (IEEE SA) across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (Region 8). The Region 8 Standards Coordinator operates within the Technical Activities structure of IEEE Region 8.
Role of the Region 8 Standards Coordinator
The Region 8 Standards Coordination supports IEEE standards awareness and engagement across the region and serves as a communication bridge between Region 8 and the IEEE Standards Association. The Region 8 Standards Coordinator aims to:
- Promote IEEE standards and standardisation activities within Region 8.
- Encourage participation in IEEE standards development initiatives.
- Strengthen collaboration between Region 8 and the IEEE Standards Association.
- Facilitate communication channels for sharing information on IEEE standards initiatives, projects, and events relevant to members in the region.
Key Activities in Region 8
- Promote IEEE Standards Association meetings, workshops, and events taking place within Region 8.
- Support awareness and participation in activities organised through the IEEE SA Awareness Programme.
- Share announcements regarding standards awards, recognition programmes, participation, and funding opportunities relevant to Region 8 members.
IEEE standards development is primarily carried out by experts working within IEEE societies, technical communities, and standards working groups. Within Region 8, standards-related technical work is often associated with local chapters or IEEE members with specialised expertise. The role of Region 8 committees and sections is therefore primarily focused on raising awareness of IEEE standards and encouraging participation in the standards development process.
