EMBS-GOLD Networking Reception, Part Deux

By Lisa Lazareck

[singlepic id=1259 w=238 h=158 float=left] Graduates Of the Last Decade (GOLD) – graduate students and young professionals of the EMBS – had the opportunity to finally meet each other at the 29th Annual International Conference of the EMBS held in Lyon, France. On Saturday, 25th August 2007, over 120 GOLD members (both EMBC’07 attendees and those living in Region 8) attended the second annual IEEE EMBS-GOLD Networking Reception (a 60% increase in attendance from the 2006 inaugural event). Over fourteen countries were represented, including: Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Portugal, Republic of Ireland, Spain, UK, USA. The majority of attendees were graduate students (minority being young professionals), and not really familiar with GOLD. The evening’s atmosphere was jovial and many new friends left the Reception together to either tour the Old Town or to enjoy the world-class cuisine of Lyon. It is the hope of EMBS that this annual event continues to improve and help our GOLD members find their peers within the community and become more familiar with the opportunities GOLD has to offer. The 2007 Reception would not have been so successful if it weren’t for the support of the EMBS Executive Office, EMBS AdCom, EMBC’07 Organizers, GOLD Executive Office, GOLD Committee, and Region 8. For further details or comments, please contact the EMBS GOLD Coordinator Lisa Lazareck ([email protected]), as she would love to hear from you!

IEEE EMBS-GOLD Networking Reception in Lyon

[singlepic id=1258 w=500 h=94 float=center]

In its effort to increase the value of IEEE and EMBS membership for young engineers, the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society will host, for the second time, an IEEE EMBS-GOLD Networking Reception at its 29th Annual International Conference in Lyon, France (EMBC’07).

The Reception will be held on Saturday, 25th August 2007 from 7:45-9:30pm at the Hall Bellecour (Centre de Congres de Lyon, 50 quai Charles de Gaulle, 69463 Lyon Cedex 06). Unfortunately, IEEE/EMBS/GOLD cannot provide any financial remuneration for your participation in the Conference or cover travel costs. If interested in attending the entire EMB Conference, online conference registration may be completed via the official EMBC’07 website: http://www.embc07.ulster.ac.uk/index.htm. Please contact the EMB Society GOLD Coordinator (Lisa Lazarek) for further details or queries.

The continuing goal of GOLD is to find out what students need from their Societies at this particular stage of their careers and how their Societies can in turn offer additional value of membership. The purpose of the joint EMBS-GOLD Reception is to establish, in an informal networking environment, what exactly these transitioning members need, want and must-have from the EMB Society. The Reception is free of charge, includes beverages and accompanying snacks, and is an excellent opportunity to meet GOLDies within the Society and from around the world. If you are a GOLD member attending EMBC’07, or are a GOLD member living in Lyon, or France, or Region 8 – you are most cordially invited to this free event!

The program will cover all IEEE Regions offering many benefits to every IEEE member. With ISBIR, the opportunities served by industry will add value to the IEEE network.

ISBIR Portal is the key point where you can access almost everything about the program. All information, applications and actions are available online. The first step to enjoying the benefits of the program is filling in the application forms. Student branches, industry representatives, IEEE members can all be involved in the program by filling in these application forms. Once you submit your application, there is a variety of things you can do: uploading your CVs, publishing your job advertisements, sharing your experiences and questions on forums and many more.

[singlepic id=1255 w=550 h=102 float=center]

Moreover, ISBIR Support Subprograms are awaiting applicant student branches to provide them funding, publications, consultancy, speaker supports for their actions.

For further information and applications, you can visit the ISBIR Portal right now at: http://www.isbir.org. ISBIR Team is eager to support IEEE volunteers from all around the world!
