[singlepic id=1268 w=237 h=171 float=left] Professional Training Course and Networking Event
Advanced Industrial Control
Joint IEEE IAS and CSS Chapter of Spain
www.ieee-ias-css.es

March 26 and 27, 2008
Madrid, Spain

This past March the Joint IEEE Industry Applications and Control Systems Society of Spain hosted 15 professionals, from 11 different organizations and from across Spain and Italy for a joint professional development and networking event in Madrid.

Over the course of the 2-day event, participants completed a training course in advanced industrial control methodologies, and also participated in a networking dinner hosted in one of the historic cellar restaurants located under the Spanish capital’s Plaza Mayor. Participants included seasoned professionals from leading global companies such as Iberdrola and International Rectifier, and leading research institutions such as the Universidad de Zaragoza, the Universidad Autónoma de Barcelona and the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid. The event was hosted entirely in English.
Membership Development. Not only was the event a success from a training and networking perspective, but it was also quite successful from a new member recruitment perspective: 3 new IEEE members signed up, 2 of them also choosing to join the Industry Applications Society and the Women in Engineering Community.
Special Guest Speaker. We were also quite lucky to have Dr. Pilar Molina Gaudo, a Senior Member of the IEEE, join participants and share her experiences with the IEEE and in the field of engineering in general. Dr. Gaudo even brought a magnetic levitator as a supporting prop for her discussion.
More Information. To learn more about the event, navigate to the chapter’s web site (www.ieee-ias-css.es) or check out the photo album from the event here.

The chapter wishes to thank all supporters and participants of the event for their collaboration.

IEEEXtreme is back

[singlepic id=1264 w=200 h=50 float=left] IEEEXtreme 2008 edition is going to take place on March 8th 2008. As last edition, we’ll start at 00:00 GMT and have 24 hours ahead of programming problems to solve. This year, however, we’re thinking on introducing some changes. Some of them are requests you sent us based on last year’s edition, some others are just extensions to the rules and some others are… surprises!

EMBS-GOLD Networking Reception, Part Deux

By Lisa Lazareck

[singlepic id=1259 w=238 h=158 float=left] Graduates Of the Last Decade (GOLD) – graduate students and young professionals of the EMBS – had the opportunity to finally meet each other at the 29th Annual International Conference of the EMBS held in Lyon, France. On Saturday, 25th August 2007, over 120 GOLD members (both EMBC’07 attendees and those living in Region 8) attended the second annual IEEE EMBS-GOLD Networking Reception (a 60% increase in attendance from the 2006 inaugural event). Over fourteen countries were represented, including: Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Portugal, Republic of Ireland, Spain, UK, USA. The majority of attendees were graduate students (minority being young professionals), and not really familiar with GOLD. The evening’s atmosphere was jovial and many new friends left the Reception together to either tour the Old Town or to enjoy the world-class cuisine of Lyon. It is the hope of EMBS that this annual event continues to improve and help our GOLD members find their peers within the community and become more familiar with the opportunities GOLD has to offer. The 2007 Reception would not have been so successful if it weren’t for the support of the EMBS Executive Office, EMBS AdCom, EMBC’07 Organizers, GOLD Executive Office, GOLD Committee, and Region 8. For further details or comments, please contact the EMBS GOLD Coordinator Lisa Lazareck ([email protected]), as she would love to hear from you!
