Dear Colleagues – Members of IEEE,

We are currently accepting technical paper submissions for our flagship conference, IEEE AFRICON 2021. AFRICON is an IEEE Region 8 flagship conference on the African continent. IEEE AFRICON 2021 will be held in Arusha, Tanzania, 13 – 15 September 2021. The conference is co-sponsored by IEEE Region 8, the IEEE Tanzania Sub-section, and Nelson Mandela African Institution of Science and Technology. Topics cover the full area of IEEE, e.g., Communications, Networks, Electronics, Power and Energy, Mobile Computing, Cloud Computing, Industrial Applications, Artificial Intelligence, Nanotechnology, and E-learning. This conference will feature world-class plenary speakers, major technical symposiums, industry and academic panels, workshops, tutorials, and invited tracks.

 

The CONFERENCE VENUE is Arusha International Conference Center (AICC)

Important Notice: If the COVID-19 pandemic and travel ban from some countries prevent authors of accepted papers from attending the conference, arrangements for virtual presentations will be made for such authors.

Join us during the Rejuvenated Region 8 2021 Spring Meeting Series!

This week, IEEE Region 8 has started its re-imagined 2021 Spring Meeting Series, which will include the 116th IEEE Region 8 Committee Meeting as well.

These meetings used to be held in-person twice per year to discuss the Region 8 strategy, operations, affairs, and to welcome its new volunteers. For the third time in a row, unfortunately, the meetings are being held virtually due to the Covid-19 pandemic. However, we remain optimistic to have a face-to-face meeting soon.

This spring, besides the regular meeting, we are also providing a chance to get to know the IEEE future vision of the three candidates for the 2022 IEEE President-Elect.

The meetings will take place from March 15th to March 21st with a schedule full of presentations from distinguished guests, operating committee members, subcommittee chairs, and more.

The first day of the meeting will start with a welcoming speech by the Region 8 Director, Antonio Luque, and an Orientation Session for the New Region 8 volunteers, moderated by the Region 8 Director-Elect, Vincenzo Piuri.

For the 2021 Spring meetings, Region 8 will celebrate announcing the new IEEE Region 8 Logo, and the Persian New Year (Nowruz). Moreover, a new forum, R8 Forum, will be arranged to have open and informal discussions in the context of the region’s operations and future plans with a focus on the effect of the Covid-19 pandemic on regional activities.

Chapters Coordination Committee

 in Chapter Coordination

Mission

To serve as an action body to help build relationships between R8 Chapters and their parent Societies and Technical Councils, to encourage the good management and vigor of R8 Chapters, and to investigate and encourage the formation of R8 Chapters. To report to the Region 8 Committee on Chapter issues and act as an interface with IEEE Societies and TAB on Chapter related questions.

  1. Establish and maintain communications with all R8 Chapters.
  2. Assist the Sections and the Societies in the creation of new R8 Chapters in locations where Society membership is sufficient to justify such formations.
  3. Establish (by the individual actions of the committee members) links with the Society governing committees (AdCom or Board of Governors) and Society chapter-coordinators, with the objective of encouraging the Society to maintain interest in and financially support its Chapters in Region 8.
  4. Establish links with the Region 8 Chapters Chairs to encourage them to liaise with their parent Societies, to make use of Society DL Programs and to improve the management and activities of the Chapters.
  5. Encourage Chapters to organize workshops, short courses, symposia, etc. should be given.
  6. Encourage R8 Section Chairs to take an interest in and to support their Chapters.
  7. Encourage attendance of R8 Chapter Chairs at Chapter Chairs meetings arranged by Societies and Divisions, and to the extent appropriate, participate in any such meetings held in R8.

There are many benefits to engaging in humanitarian technology and sustainable development activities at IEEE, such as the opportunity to learn and develop professional skills, connection and community with like-minded IEEE members around the world, working toward a greater purpose, and making a real difference!

 

Join the IEEE Humanitarian Activities Committee (HAC) and IEEE SIGHT to get involved. You can become an IEEE SIGHT member; form a SIGHT Group to assess needs in your local community, apply for financial resources, and implement a sustainable technological solution; volunteer on a Committee; or help share these opportunities with others who may be interested. HAC and SIGHT also offer free, online resources on the IEEE Learning Network (ILN) and SIGHT website to equip participants with a basic understanding of humanitarian technology and sustainable development topics.
