Call for Participation
The IEEE Region 8 Professional and Education Activities Committee invites all IEEE members in Region 8 to participate in the Local Language Program contest for ambassadors who will organize several events in their selected local languages:
- The Local Language Program aims to promote activities (online or in person) and online content in different languages (aside from English) across Region 8.
- This program supports IEEE-related activities throughout Region 8 and provides funding to help develop these initiatives.
- Region 8 is seeking ambassadors who will arrange multiple events in their chosen local languages. Each ambassador may be nominated in more than one language if applicable.
Eligibility
- IEEE Members from any Section in Region 8.
- Applicants must be fluent in at least one language other than English.
- Each applicant may be nominated in multiple languages if applicable.
- Applicants who were winners or runners-up in the previous year’s Local Language Contest and did not submit the required report are not eligible to apply.
Selected ambassadors will have up to 250 USD available for this program. Funding applications will open after ambassador selection.
Submission Process
The submission is based on a proposal description, which should be submitted via the form within the specified deadlines.
The proposal should include the following information:
- applicant name,
- language of the event,
- section or sub-section,
- date of the activity,
- location of the activity (or online),
- organizers of the event,
- name of the activity in English,
- name of the activity in the local language,
- event website (if available),
- amount of requested funds (if applicable),
- additional information (if necessary).
Call for Ambassadors is Open for 2026
The deadlines are as follows:
- Submission deadline: 10 May 2026
- Notification of results: 25 May 2026
- Reporting deadline: 15 November 2026

2025 Awards Announcement
We are pleased to announce the finalists of the IEEE Region 8 Local Language Program 2025:
- Mohamed Amine Elyanoubli – Tunisian language (Tunisia Section)
- Onyebuchi Goodnews Somtochukwu – Yoruba language (Nigeria Section)
- Taoheed Abdulraheem – Yoruba, Hausa languages (Nigeria Section)
- Antoh Shadrack – Twi language (Ghana Section)
- Chukwudum Chibuike Charles-Mary – Igbo language (Nigeria Section)
These recognitions highlight the exceptional dedication and contributions demonstrated throughout the Local Language Program.
Financial compensation for program expenses will be distributed directly to the respective IEEE Sections. In addition, certificates of appreciation will be presented to each Section’s delegate during the 126th IEEE Region 8 Committee Meeting in Helsinki, Finland.
