John Matogo is currently the chair for Action for Industry Africa sub committee for IEEE Region 8. He previously served as Chair of the IEEE Kenya Section 2014/2015 and Africa Ambassador for Action for Industry 2016-2020.

 

Professionally, John is the IBM Global University Programs Africa Leader. He joined IBM in Sept 2014 bringing with him vast experience from the academic community in Eastern Africa. His role involves leading IBM skills enablement programs across the African region. These include the IBM Global University Programs http://ibm.com/university & Africa Skills Programs such as Digital-Nation Africa (www.digitalnationafrica.com ).

 

John has been instrumental in forging collaborations for IBM with numerous institutions of basic & higher education and ministries of education in the African region. The outcome of the programmes initiated so far include training students and faculty members on the latest technologies including cloud, artificial intelligence, mobile, data science, cyber security, quantum computing and many more.

 

Prior to joining IBM, John was the founding Manager of @iBizAfrica, the business innovation centre at Strathmore University and a faculty member in the Faculty of Information Technology at the same institution, teaching software engineering and computing courses. He is interested in the application of technology in educational environments and developing digital skills among young people. His research interests include ICTs in education, ICT4D, Free & Open source software and Innovation & entrepreneurship.

Marios Antoniou has more than 24 years’ experience in ICT. He began his career as a software engineer at Cisco Systems in Chelmsford Massachusetts after receiving a BSEE from UCSB in Santa Barbara and an MSEE from Northeastern University in Boston. Marios has been working at CYTA for more than 20 years and has received an MBA degree from CIIM in Cyprus. He has been involved and led several projects in the areas of product and project management as well as business processes development and management.

 

Marios, is the past chair of IEEE Region 8 Action for Industry (AfI) subcommittee. He has been involved in industry engagement and entrepreneurship activities in Europe, Middle East and Africa. Marios has been a speaker in industry and entrepreneurship conferences. He has been involved in IEEE Region 8 AfI internship program, IEEE Region 8 entrepreneurship initiative and has collaborated with YPs, WIE, Professional and Educational Activities as well as Student Activities. He has been a mentor and a judge in entrepreneurship events. He is a member of IEEE 2021 Entrepreneurship Steering Committee. Marios has received the IEEE MGA Achievement Award.

 



Frederique Vallee
Agrégée of mathematics (1978 – highest degree of teaching in France) and PhD in statistics (1981)

 

After 4 years as mathematics teacher (1978-1981) and 5 years within Thales as reliability engineer (1081 -1986), I founded in 1989 my own company MATHIX, that became ALL4TEC in 2006For 10 years (2006-2016) I have been in charge of consultancy, R&D and support activities within ALL4TEC. I am now acting as an independent consultant in my own company (F&CO)

Danilo Pau – Technical Director, IEEE & ST Fellow – System Research and Applications

 

One year before graduating from the Polytechnic University of Milan in 1992, Danilo PAU joined STMicroelectronics, where he worked on HDMAC and MPEG2 video memory reduction, video coding, embedded graphics, and computer vision. Today, his work focuses on developing solutions for deep learning tools and applications.
Since 2019 Danilo is an IEEE Fellow, serves as Industry Ambassador coordinator for IEEE Region 8 South Europe, vice-chairman of the “Intelligent Cyber-Physical Systems” Task Force within IEEE CIS, and Member of the Machine Learning, Deep Learning and AI in the CE (MDA) Technical Stream Committee IEEE Consumer Electronics Society (CESoc). He received on 2020 the Asia Pacific Signal and Information Processing Association Industrial Distinguished Leaders Award.

 

With over 80 patents, 94 publications, 113 MPEG authored documents and more than 31 invited talks/seminars at various worldwide Universities and Conferences, Danilo’s favorite activity remains mentoring undergraduate students, MSc engineers and PhD students from various universities in Italy, US, France and India.

 


Mohamed El Dallal is a serial Entrepreneur currently the Co-founder and CEO of “Innovideas LLC. for Marketing & Advertising” and Co-founder and board member of “Techne”.

 

Earning his BSc degree – Computer & Communication Engineering-, MBA holder specialized in International Business, a researcher in the digital marketing field.

 

He is also an avid volunteer, participating with several NGOs, project and youth initiatives both inside and outside of Egypt since 2009. He is currently a Global Shaper Member of Egyptian junior business association (EJB), Rotarian as well as an IEEE Region 8 (EMEA) Entrepreneurship Initiative team leader and IEEE Region 8 Professional and Educational Activities member.

Kithinji Muriungi is the current chair of IEEE Young Professionals AG Kenya Section & IEEE Photonics Society Kenya Chapter. He is a registered member of Institution of Engineers of Kenya (IEK) with BEng (Electrical & Electronics) degree from Moi University.

 

He was recently appointed by the ICT Authority as a researcher / Software & Firmware R&D Engineer to work among team of researchers & innovators to design, develop and implement ‘Fit-For-Purpose’ digital computing device to be used in learning and teaching in primary schools to support Digital Learning Programme (DLP) in Kenya: a project powered by the Government of Kenya.

 

He is also working on Bestilaya: a platform that connects individuals to hire, buy/sell, exchange, download, or donate new or used books.

 

Previously, as a Program Assistant – Intern at IBM, he promoted the IBM Skills Initiative Programs (Skills Academy & IBM Digital – Nation Africa) across 10 East Africa countries. Prior to joining IBM, he was a Product Design and Development Mentee at Safaricom Alpha (Innovation Center) on a journey to building Food Pap! He has also worked as a Network Operations Center Engineer Intern at Safaricom PLC.

 

He is a very active IEEE Volunteer where over the past 5 years he has been awarded Larry K Wilson, 2019; Volunteer Achievement Award, 2018; VoLT Graduate, 2019; and several international travel grants.

 

He is highly skilled at Group / Individual electronics engineering projects, emerging technologies and its applications and people interactions with ability to work in teams or independently through application of design thinking, problem solving, critical and analytical thinking. He is a strong advocate for human advancement through Education and Technology hence always championing for Academic Excellence, Trans-formative Leadership, Giving Back to Society, and promoting Value-Centered life.

 

He aims at creating a lasting impact on the youths and the upcoming generations to provide societal-based solutions which are innovative and entrepreneurial through engineering & science, cutting-edge technologies, and service to humanity. He says, “Being an Engineer is a golden opportunity granted to me so that I can make this world a better place. Therefore, I never assume who I am or take it for granted.”

 



Toni Mattila, Ph.D.(Tech), Adj. Prof.

I have worked in the field of electronics since 1996 in industrial, academic and governmental settings, and in my current position for the past eight years. IN my current role I lead a program that implements wider national economic development goals for the benefit of Finnish companies and wider national business ecosystems.

 

I am also a docent (Adjunct Professor) of Aalto University, Finland, specialized in electronic materials, packaging and integration of electronics, and the reliability of electronic devices. This work includes representing my scientific field in the name of Aalto University on various matters (e.g. technical forums, public media, expert evaluations) but also acting as an advisor for Ph. D. students and giving lectures on my scientific field.

 

Before joining Helsinki University of Technology (later Aalto University) in 1999, I worked for Tellabs Inc. and Nokia for four years, all together.

 

My whole 14-year academic carrier I worked in close co-operation with international electronics industry, research institutions and universities. My research has resulted in numerous publications in scientific and technical journals and conferences (50+). In addition, I have authored seven book chapters, held several professional tutorials during conferences and been a frequent speaker at conferences, seminars and technology fairs. I have been visiting Professor at Universidade Federal do Amazonas, Brazil and visiting Scientist and a member of Technical Staff at University of Maryland, USA. I am also a frequent reviewer in several scientific journals.

 

In IEEE I have served in several different positions listed mode detail on the left. In addition to the listed activities. I have been an active volunteer for well over ten years in technical committees of many IEEE conferences, such as the IEEE EPS flagship conferences ECTC, EPTC, and ESTC.
