Who Was Clementina Saduwa?
Clementina Saduwa was a dedicated and tireless student leader and an exceptionally effective IEEE volunteer during the revival of the IEEE Nigeria Section. She later became the first IEEE Region 8 Women in Engineering (WIE) Coordinator.
In January 2007, Clementina was killed in a random act of violence at the age of 29, leaving behind her husband and young daughter.
May her soul rest in peace.
Objectives of the Award
To honor Clementina and pay tribute to her years of service, IEEE Region 8 named this prestigious award after her. The Clementina Saduwa Award recognizes an outstanding woman engineer who, through her engineering and career achievements, has demonstrated noteworthy support for women in the profession and established a record of excellence.
Nominations will be reviewed jointly by the IEEE Region 8 WIE Committee and the IEEE Region 8 Awards and Recognition Sub-Committee, which will select the winner.
Eligibility and Selection Criteria
The selection of the winner will be based on several criteria, including the candidate’s curriculum vitae, personal statement, challenges encountered while developing her professional career, reference letters, and other supporting information.
The eligible candidate must:
- Be an active woman engineer working in one of the fields of interest of IEEE.
- Be an IEEE member whose engineering and career achievements have been accomplished in one or more countries within IEEE Region 8.
- Submit a personal statement of no more than 750 words describing her career goals, the challenges and obstacles she has faced throughout her career, and how she overcame them.
- Be supported by at least two signed endorsement letters submitted by the nominator. The nominator may be a non-IEEE member. Letters must be written by individuals qualified to evaluate the candidate’s achievements, such as colleagues, teachers, or other professional references. Additional endorsement letters from public or private organizations may also be submitted.
- Not have previously received the Clementina Saduwa Award. The award may be presented to an individual only once.
Award and Presentation
The winner of the Clementina Saduwa Award will receive USD 1,000. The award will be presented during an IEEE Region 8 Meeting.
