Outstanding Branch Counselor and Branch Chapter Advisor Award

  • Why? Aware of the unusual and dedicated efforts of Student Branch Counselors and Branch Chapter Advisors, the Regional and Technical Activities Boards sponsor a cash award to each of the approximately 20 outstanding Counselors and Advisors around the world.

A Step-by-Step Guide for Student Branch Chapters

Step 1. Host your first Chapter Committee meeting

  • Who could attend?
    • You can invite the Advisor to the meeting
    • Important chapter officers should attend
    • SB Representative (e.g. Chair, Chapter Coordinator) could also be invited
    • Your meeting could be open to all Chapter members or entire SB members
  • Discuss the roles and responsibilities of your Chapter officers according to your Student Branch Constitution following your Student Branch and its Chapters reality.
  • Schedule your meeting dates according to your needs
  • Plan your events and your overall activity
  • Prepare your action plan for your Chapter Chair to present it at the SB ExCom meeting

 

Step 2. Participate and organize events

  • Participate in your SB introductory event and explain “What is your Society? Why did we join  and why should YOU?”
  • Co-organize events with your Student Branch and participate in your SB events like:
    • IEEEDay 
    • IEEEXtreme 
    • Student Paper Contest
    • IEEEduino
  • Learn about other activities related to the society and organize related events:
    • Distinguished Lecturer Program
    • Society-driven contests and competitions
    • Seminars and workshops on society-related field
    • Team-building activities for your Chapter members to strengthen useful connections with others
  • Advertise and encourage participation:
    • Take attendance list and photos for the event
    • Report your event on vTools “Important”
    • Share it on social media

 

Step 3. Establish useful connections to your SB chapter

  • Create connections with the other SB chapters inside your University
  • Create connections with similar SB chapters in your Section, your Region or even globally
  • Keep in touch with the SSAC and SSR in your Section
  • Keep in touch with the related chapter committee in your Section
  • Keep in touch with Student Activities officers of your Society

 

Step 4. Half-year membership season

  • Recruit new members (1 March – 15 August) at a 50% discounted price in comparison with full-year membership
  • Get a discount on the renewal fee by recruiting through IEEE Member-Get-A-Member program

 

Step 5. Call for nominations for new officers

  • New committee elections day
    • This is encouraged to be the same with your Student Branch elections
  • Report new officers on vTools
  • Report your activity back to your SB ExCom and your Society according to its standards

IEEE Region 8 Awards

Student Branch of the Year Award

  • Why? Identify the Student Branches that have conducted quality events, workshops, projects, etc. for the benefit of students.

Outstanding Student Branch Website Award

  • Why? Recognize those student websites that provide information about the activities, latest tech updates, learning opportunities, IEEE Benefits etc. through creative digital efforts aimed to make it easy for students of their student branch to obtain the information.

Student Branch Membership Growth Award

  • Why? Recognize the essential work of the student branches in Region 8 regarding student membership growth, and also to promote and encourage student branches to work in that direction.

Section Student Membership Development Award

  • Why? Recognize the essential work of the sections in Region 8 regarding student membership development, and also to promote and encourage sections to work in that direction.

Student Branch Chapters of the Year Award

  • Why? Recognize outstanding performance of the nominated chapter, reflected by the completed nomination form and supporting documents.

Women in Engineering Student Affinity Group of the Year Award

  • Why? Recognize activities and achievements for a WIE Student Affinity group from Region 8 within the past year.

Outstanding Women in Engineering Student Volunteer Award

  • Why? Recognize an outstanding WIE Student volunteer who has been devoted to promoting WIE activities and spearheading events within their Student Branch AG

Outstanding Student Branch SIGHT Group of the Year Award

  • Why? Recognize the essential work of the existing student branch SIGHT groups in Region 8, but also to promote and encourage student branches to create SIGHT groups.

Student Paper Contest 2022: 1st Phase Results

This year there were 15 submissions in total, from which 13 submissions were accepted as valid. The submissions were from the following student branches:

The jury has anonymously selected the following five papers (listed in alphabetical order) for the Regional Oral Finals:

IEEEDuino

 

IEEEDuino is a student-focused hardware contest to inspire student members in Europe, Middle East, and Africa to design, build, test, and demonstrate an innovative project on an Arduino microcontroller. Innovators, makers, and developers across the region, an opportunity to take part in a hardware design and build competition and compete against others in IEEE Region 8 and win great prizes for both winning and participating!

Call for Nominations – 2022 MGA Awards

Nominations for Outstanding Section Awards – Deadline 15 May 2022

Each year, the MGA Outstanding Section Awards are presented to one large, one medium, and one small Section (across all Regions), to recognize their excellent work and successful efforts in fulfilling the educational and scientific goals of IEEE for the benefit of the public.  The recipient Sections are acknowledged for maintaining, enhancing, and supporting the Student Branches, Technical Chapters, and Affinity Groups within their geographic boundaries. 

Three awards are presented, as follows:

  • Large Section = 1,501 or more members (including Students) as of 31 December of the prior year;

  • Medium Section = 501-1,500 members (including Students) as of 31 December of the prior year;

  • Small Section = 500 or fewer members (including Students) as of 31 December of the prior year

Nominations for Friend of IEEE MGA Awards

These awards are designed to specifically recognize support provided to IEEE and its members by firms, divisions of firms, or individuals (non-members). Nominators can submit individuals or organizations for a Friend Award at the supporting or sustaining level. Nominations for this award may be submitted at any time during the year.
